MATUNUCK OYSTER BAR
Matunuck Oyster Bar is home to the premium oyster and seafood experience right on the water. This is the freshest you are going to get as they practically put on a show for you, as they clean and dress the Matunuck Oysters. It’s a must, if you never had a raw oyster, this is the place to make your debut. It is nothing to fear, as “fishyness” in the oysters is nonexistent.
While in Rhode Island you MUST have Rhode Island style Calamari. They just nail it right, lightly breaded and buttery and the freshest tasting. It is traditionally served with fried hot peppers mixed it to kick it up a notch. We had Matunuck Oysters, Shrimp Cocktail and P.T Judith Calamari to kick off the meal. You would think you were eating a tender steak, as that is how meaty the shrimp cocktail are. The Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad is divine, finished off with orange and toasted walnuts. The Seared Scallops and Butternut Squash Risotto, is a medley of heavenly flavor with a touch of fall. What a romantic menu, beautiful wine selection, local beer, cocktails and ambience.

Mews Tavern is a funky dive-esk joint where you can satisfy just about any craving. First things first, you must check out their “money bar.” There is truly no other bar that compares. You can have a great time here whether you are craving a burger, pub style food, or a health conscious entree without sacrificing any bold beautiful flavor. They have a sign that says “Need Beer,” which the servers honor, so hold your horses, as long as you have that sign visible for your server, beer will come to you. The pizza at Mews is quite dynamite, and steers away from the typical sauce and cheese hybrid we get every day. We inhaled the Smoked Barbecue Chicken Pizza as it was finished off with roasted red peppers and Gouda cheese. We also took a risk and went for the Citrus Grilled Salmon served atop Spinach, Quinoa, and butternut squash. This was one of the better slabs of salmon we’ve had, as it was steak like, flavorful, buttery, and paired with the perfectly cooked quinoa and butternut squash, it created a harmony of glorious flavor that you could not get enough of. The diversity of food that parades through the different scenes of this restaurant is quite entertaining as it is mesmerizing. The locals know exactly what they’re ordering and if in doubt, just wait for the food to parade to other tables and you’ll make a choice real quick as you allow your eyes to do some tasting!
